“This is a subject that has been extremely important to me for my entire life. My parents didn't look like hippies, but we were raised to respect people, our community and our environment.” Randy Baker
Here are a few things we're doing at Baker Street Burgers to be more sustainable:
We use carryout containers made of cardboard rather than expanded polystyrene (like Styrofoam™) or plastic.
We have changed as many of our packaged beer, soda and water to aluminum cans from plastic or glass.
We compost every week with Nettle, to keep food waste out of the landfill where it can produce methane.
We recycle all plastic, paper, glass, aluminum and cardboard.
We use straws that are biodegradable and are made from the leftover agave fibers from tequila production.
We recently changed our dishwasher to one that uses less water per cycle.
We use programmable thermostats with schedules that reduce energy usage when we don't have people in the restaurant.
We purchase the eggs we use from local, family-owned farms rather than factory farms. Surprisingly, we go through a lot of eggs!
We think we have the best burgers in Rockford, but we also have proteins with lower carbon intensities like chicken, Impossible Burger™, and bean burger.
We’re always innovating, so check out the current menu here. We’re very interested in becoming carbon neutral. That is still a work in progress.
